For many, Social Security is a main source of income later in life, and no one wants to lose out on those funds or a perceived opportunity for more benefits. This can lead to people acting in urgency when they hear from someone claiming to be the Social Security Administration, and scammers are taking full advantage.If someone contacts you or a loved one and says something similar to any of these four things, it’s time to hang up.
  • Your Social Security number has been suspended, and we need your personal information to reactivate it.
  • Your benefits have been suspended, and you need to pay to get them back.
  • You can pay to increase your benefits.
  • You must pay immediately for a penalty or as an overpayment correction.
