Not All or Nothing: How We're Saving Money and Moving Forward

When we first started focusing on project money, we went all in, committed to the process—thinking it meant saving every possible penny, cutting WAY back and putting all our plans on hold. But over the last few months, we’ve realized (and with the help of our financial advisor, Thanks Ashley!!) that it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. We’ve found that it’s completely possible to keep saving while still making progress on the things we had planned. It's all about being intentional and creative with how we approach things. Instead of hiring out every task, we took the DIY route when possible. We borrowed tools instead of buying them, spaced out bigger projects over time and recruited our friends and family to assist with labor! Doing things ourselves not only saved money but gives us a deeper appreciation for the work that goes into our new home. We've also learned to take advantage of resources that help stretch our dollars further. Facebook Marketplace or resale sites have become our go-to for finding quality items for a fraction of the cost, and we always keep an eye out for clearance deals when buying materials. With a little bit of time, a LOT of hard work, a shift away from the black-and-white mindset, and some marketplace negotiations we were able to install a new patio in our backyard for $150!! Something that should have cost us thousands.
